IPL (Indian Premier League) was founded in 2008 after India won the T20 world cup which was held for the first time. India defeated most rival team Pakistan in the finals. Before IPL was started ZEE entertainment started the ICL Indian Cricket league.







ICL was not under the recognition of neither BCCI (Board of Cricket Council India) nor ICC (International Cricket Council). So they strictly warned every player not to join ICL. And yet after that, they started a tournament with Lalit Modi named Indian Premier League.







The start of the tournament meant as the bids were at 400 million per owner and the names would be after that city or state. The eight cities were selected and could afford the pricing of the franchise. And it would help every player to create revenue.








The cities were Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mohali. This was in early 2008 were BCCI announced the launch of the Indian Premier League. It was based on the premier league in England and NBA in the United States.



Expansion and Termination



 On 21 March, it was announced by BCCI that two new franchises would join IPL in the fourth season in 2011. Sahara adventure sports bought the Pune franchise for $370 million. Whereas Rendezvous sports world bought the Kochi franchise for $333.3 million. After that in 2011, they found out that Kochi tuskers Kerala would be terminated for breaching the terms and conditions of BCCI.







On June 2015 it was announced that two teams Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals had a match-fixing role in a match. They were banned for two seasons for their role in match fix. IPL is the tournament where players from every part of the world come to play.
